چکیده

The association between type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and heart failure (HF) has been well-described for at least 4 decades (1), with DM increasing the risk of HF by 2to 6-fold (2). Based on these observations, DM was included as 1 of the criteria for the diagnosis of Stage A HF in the revised American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (AHA) HF classification scheme introduced in 2001 (3), identifying patients at particularly high risk of developing HF. The classification was modified in 2005 to also include the metabolic syndrome and obesity (4), underscoring the association between insulin-resistant conditions and HF risk.

Insulin resistance and risk of incident heart failure: Cardiovascular Health Study.

BACKGROUND Patients with heart failure (HF) have higher fasting insulin levels and a higher prevalence of insulin resistance as compared with matched controls. Insulin resistance leads to structural abnormalities in the heart, such as increased left atrial size, left ventricular mass, and alterations in transmitral velocity that can precede the diagnosis of HF. It is not known whether insulin r...

Serum resistin concentrations and risk of new onset heart failure in older persons: the health, aging, and body composition (Health ABC) study.

OBJECTIVE Resistin is associated with inflammation and insulin resistance and exerts direct effects on myocardial cells including hypertrophy and altered contraction. We investigated the association of serum resistin concentrations with risk for incident heart failure (HF) in humans. METHODS AND RESULTS We studied 2902 older persons without prevalent HF (age, 73.6+/-2.9 years; 48.1% men; 58.8...

Insulin resistance in psoriasis: A case-control study

Background: Recent studies suggest that psoriasis may be a pathogenic factor for the metabolic syndrome and atherosclerosis. The aim of our study was to investigate the metabolic state in psoriatic patients in order to clarify the association between psoriasis and insulin resistance. Methods: This single-centre, case- control study was performed between 2008 and 2010 to evaluate the metabo...

Risk Factors for Heart Failure in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease: The CRIC (Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort) Study

BACKGROUND Heart failure is common in patients with chronic kidney disease. We studied risk factors for incident heart failure among 3557 participants in the CRIC (Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort) Study. METHODS AND RESULTS Kidney function was assessed by estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) using serum creatinine, cystatin C, or both, and 24-hour urine albumin excretion. During an ...
